Saturday – A day in a life of a Dhol player
It was Saturday morning and I was up and ready for the days bookings with our veteran Dhol player Satnam . It was 8am; I had my favourite grey waist coat on and left the house to pick up Satnam. On our way there I heard another unusual sound coming from my car (I just can’t seem to catch a break the). Outside Satnam’s house I checked my tyre and I had a huge nail lodged into my front right tyre which was causing a slow puncture. In most cases that wouldn’t have been too much a of a problem but in this particular case the days bookings were based in Guildford & Woking… Hardly up the road.

Me= -_-

Our journey
Even though my car was being a bit temperamental we still got to our first booking on time. The Copthorne Hotel in Guilford.

Satnam strapping up… as they say
The next booking was all the way in Woking which was about a 45 min drive, we had plenty of time to spare so Satnam and I stopped off for some KFC at a service station (as you do). Once we had arrived at Woking we came across a car that the family hired and it had one of the best number plates I hade ever seen…

As all Dhol players know, a gig isn’t a gig without waiting around and this was no different. Nothing a bit of Two and a Half Men couldn’t sort out…

If you live ‘the life of a Dhol player’ here is a good tip…download the ‘Video D/L’ app and watch your favourite shows.
The Verdict:
The Copthrone Hotel in Guilford is a beautiful venue for any type of wedding. There is a free car park for all your guests and as it is a high end luxury hotel, the staff are immensely pleasant, in other words they treat you like bloody royalty. In terms of space, well you certainly not short of it, the main hall..well its big… very big. The downside depends on where you live, it can be a bit of a drive so if you are planning on having a few celebratory drinks you may want to find a designated drunk driver.
